On Thursday we visited the Channel Islands Visitor Center. We had already taken a cruise to the Channel Islands but had not visited the Visitor Center located in mainland Ventura.
While there we learned that the oldest known native settlement in North America has been found on the Channel Islands. The Scott O' Dell book, Island of the Blue Dolphins is also set there.
I was a very informative trip. The kids got to see a tide pool, although it didn't hold much interest for them since they couldn't touch anything. And they had explored many the day before.
A life size Elephant Seal statue.
Afterwords we took a walk down past the Ventura Marina. There had just been an art festival the weekend before. One of the contests must have been sidewalk art.
We still hope to one day go back and visit the rest of the islands.
