Colorado - Memorial Day 2014

Memorial Day Colorado trip.
We went out to paint and install electrical in the cabin.  The BIG news was that there was now a toilet!  Best news ever!  After camping in the cabin for almost 3 years it has arrived in the 20 century with running water!  Once we got there we added a sink.  Another fantastic improvement!

Beautiful, just beautiful!

While we worked and worked we had to have a little fun.  And of course, my jeep is perfect for that.

Glorie, a friend came along with us to Colorado to help with the 7 kids we had between the Bainums and us.

We painted and painted and painted.

I have blisters on my hand from holding a paint brush.

Glorie even chipped in.

Alan decided to join us at the last minute.  He is always a favorite with the kids, and his help was greatly appreciated.

We achieved light!  Another huge improvement!  See the lantern on the left?  Soon we will no longer need it!

Unfortunately a round of sickness went through the families.  Glorie suffered the most and was down for 2 days.

The last evening we went into town for dinner and the girls played the piano.  They got $2 in tips!

A picture of Nathaniel holding up an Elk bone.

The kids got the great idea to stalk deer and elk.  Here they are sneaking up on a doe in the trees.

Sand Dunes National Park

For a day of fun we went to Sand Dunes National Park.  In the spring the snow melts in the mountains and forms Medano Creek.  It flows past the dunes only inches deep and 50-100 yards wide.  A fantastic play place for kids.

The men decided to go hike the dunes.  In order to do so they had to take off their shoes to cross the creek.

Nora and Abby.

Ben found a log to escape to.

Why didn't we take swimming suits?  I don't know!

See the specks at the top of the dune?  That is Alan, Chad and Mike.

I tried getting a good picture of the kids in hopes of making a Christmas card this year.  I don't know what was going on with Nathaniel.

Glorie and the mud.

The men coming back.  By then we had had enough sun and sand to last us awhile.
