New Chickens

We got some new chickens! And even better yet, DUCKS! I had to twist Chad's arm to get the ducks, but they were free! Chad saw an ad a the local feed store for 4 free chickens and a pair of ducks. We didn't believe it, but we called anyway. One year old laying hens sell very fast around here. The family that owned them had them as pets but needed to fix their home up to sell. They live in the city. The hens and the ducks are very tame and used to being handled by children. The previous owner said the ducks were both female but we are pretty sure they are a breeding pair. Ducklings! I can't wait. Chad says I'm crazy.

We haven't named the black ones. It's hard to name chickens

when there is more than one that looks alike.

Flower Snow, according to Nora. I hope it evolves to Snow Flower, I think it rolls off the tongue better. She is a spitting image of Snowy, a chicken we had before that died.

Timmy's New Blanket

Chad's aunt Missy made Timothy a blanket all his very own. He no longer has to borrow from Nathaniel or Nora. Not that we don't have any blankets for Tim to use, but Missy made some for the other two a couple of years ago that are fleece and well loved by the kids. They are lightweight and perfect for travel or just throwing on top the the bed (they are also great for wrapping up stuffed animals that are taking naps). Nora and Nathaniel don't like sharing theirs with Timothy and so Missy made one for him. See how happy the boy it to have his very own blanket?

First Day of School

Nora's first day of School! Homeschooling that is. We started Kindergarten today for Nora and Pre-school for Nathaniel. Well, sorta pre-school for Nathaniel. I'm just keeping him busy to keep him out of my hair. He got to build with blocks while Nora did Reading and Math lessons. By public school standards she wouldn't start till next fall, but I though we would get a head start and take it slow and easy. I hope to add in some other subjects as we progress in the next couple of months. For those of you who care about that sort of thing, I'm using Singapore Math and Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons for reading.
