The White House

We got up this morning with plans to meet the Barnes at the White House.  After a breakfast at our hotel we hit the streets.

When traveling I love being immersed in the culture of a new place.  But as much as I'm fascinated by how things are different than what I'm used to we all want a piece of normalcy or home to give comfort when we are in a strange environment.  Whereas Americans used to seek out McDonalds in foreign (or domestic) cities now it is Starbucks we seek.

The sky walks at the Department of Agriculture.

The new African American Museum.

After two miles of walking we made it to the White House.  See the snipers on top?  It turns out the Barnes (and Nora) where on the other side.  It worked out for the best because the Secret Service was kicking us out.  While stopping at the bathrooms a concessions worker motioned for us to meet him around the corner saying he had a "surprise" for the boys.  Thinking he was giving the boys a piece of candy we relunctally went a long.  Keep in mind, the Secret Service are still herding us like cattle out of the area.  We had to be quick about collecting on the "candy".  Once around the other side the concessions told us that the President was going to fly over at 11am and if we were to be on position at the Washington Monument by then we would see it.  With an hour and a half to spare we went in search of the Barnes.

Here they are on the other side.

The boys.

Of course, there had to be a protester.  Not sure what he had to say, I didn't stick around.
