Harpers Ferry is a historical town preservived for its significance. There is quite a bit of history packed into this small town.
The buildings are in excellent shape. The town reminds me of others we have seen restored and maintained out west, but Harpers Ferry is much larger. Perhaps as much as 5 city blocks.
The town receives it name from a man named Harper who ran a ferry here in the mid 1700's. The town sits where the Shenandoah and Potomac River met. Harpers Ferry sits in West Viergina just across the river from Maryland. The Potomac continues on down river to Washington DC. Making the town a strategic site in the Civil War.
Someone with a twisted sense of humor had a bit of fun with a window.
The history of Lewis and Clark is widely promoted out west, here is where they started. Having crossed the US one time or another, I can not fathom the amount of distance they covered in their journey.
