After a long nap Maria suggested we take the boys to the splash pad on the corner.
At first Nathaniel was reluctant to play. Tim didn't even want to get wet since I didn't have his swimming suit and he would have to be wet for hours before we were back at the hotel.
That moment when you realize your kid is the only white boy out there....
But it didn't take long for Nathaniel to make friends. Another kid had a water bottle and they were using it to put over the hole the water comes out of.
Even Tim decided this was to much fun to pass up. He is in the white shirt.
After it was all over Nathaniel told me that another kid (toddler or preschooler) kept slapping him in the face. Nathaniel explained that he told the little guy to stop and he just wouldn't. Nathaniel didn't retaliate in any fashion, but I had to give him a high five and tell him "You held your own in intercity DC, way to go! And while I would have no problem with you defending yourself, I appreciate not involving us in a fist fight in a neighborhood where we are the minority."
Maria and Jonathan.
