Colorado - Putting in Rich's pump

Rich is a family friend that has a lot just down the road.  He was a good friend of my dad's and they spent a lot of time working together on their cabin ideas.  Rich does not yet have his cabin built, he is working on it slowly.  He currently has a driveway and a well in place and asked for our help installing the pump.

Because he is only camping on the spot for the time being he wanted a hand pump.

The job went surprisingly fast with 4 men.  I showed up to take pictures and was surprised to find that they were almost done.

The drive is only a quarter of a mile but because I was taking the jeep I took along two boys, Tim and Joey.  Once the pump was in place it needed to be pumped quite a bit to clean out the chemicals that have to be used in the process.  I had the perfect helpers for that job.

Seeing how much fun the boys were having the men sent me back to the cabin to get some reinforcements (and drinks).

I brought back all the reinforcements I could find.

The men just sat back and watched knowing they didn't want to be responsible for what would happen next.

First the kids pumped the water....

....some stripped down....

...then it was discovered that water eventually makes puddles...

...Caleb...

...Joey...

...Ben and Tim...

...the mud got worse....

...and worse...

(Notice how most of these pictures are of the boys and not the girls?)

...and worse...until....

...THE GREAT CLEAN UP.

Remember how there is no running water at the cabin?  No mother wanted to put a muddy kid in her vehicle to drive 10 minutes to clean them off.  Our only choice was the water from Rich's well.  Water from 150 feet down in the mountain is very, very cold.  The same kids that laughed and played in the water minutes before found that the consequences of those actions carried a very cold price.
