On Saturday we went as a group to Sand Dunes National Park. We arrived in three separate groups. Sandy decided to go by way of Walmart. The Bainums and Barnes went by the normal route and the Changs, Bakers and Alan went by the mountain pass/4 wheel drive route.
To get there we took two mountain passes.
The first one was Pass Creek Pass, it was easy and nothing more than a well maintained dirt road easily passible by 2 wheel drives.
We passed this old school house on Pass Creek. I am proud of this picture because I took it while driving at 40 miles and hour. I just held the camera at my shoulder and pushed the button. It was pure luck that I got it.
Medano Pass was the route we took into Sand Dunes. The Changes followed us in their CRV. We had not traveled the road before and were not sure it was passable by the CRV. This picture was taken at the toughest part. Pictures never truly show the true steepness of a hill. Shaunda was stuck and the men were showing her how to get out and where to drive over the rocks.
She made it!
Nathaniel and Titus waiting and watching the action.
Up and over the pass and on the other side coming down.
Alan and the boys, I can't remember why we stopped here, but I guess we did.
The Changs at a water crossing.
The Sand Dunes ahead.
See how the road gets sandier? It's easy to get stuck in this section. We made it without mishap.
The Sand Dunes.
At the Dunes we met up with everyone else. Here are the Bainums.
And Jo Jo, my bud.
It was really hot that day.
Maggy, Katie and Abby hiking back from the dunes. See the specks behind them? Those are people, thats how big the dunes are.
Mike coming back.
A picture of ALL the kids. Yes, ALL the kids. Think of all those kids packed into a house. Think of all that energy packed into a house......
