After the Hayworths left we had a day to ourselves and we set off to check out some 4 wheel drive roads
First we took a look at the Trinchera Peak road and promptly decided we needed to come back with Mike another time. So, we gave county road 421 a try. It's hard to explain without looking at a map but according to the topographical maps it is a "back door" so to speak to the park where the cabin is. I had tried finding it from the park side but was unable to do so. We thought we could try it from the other end and see if we could make our way in.
The Spanish peaks with Goemmer Butte in the foreground.
Just a few miles into the road we discovered an abandoned mine. Once again due to my recent obsession with topographical maps.
An old building still left standing.
The mine was caved in and well buried.
We continued on.
About 6 months ago we purchased a 1999 Jeep Wrangler that we keep in Colorado. I like to explain it as my father's way of making up for all the birthdays and Christmases he will be missing.
On this trip we learned how to take the top down. It really makes it a lot of fun!
The kids really enjoyed it.
Nora isn't the biggest fan of riding in the Jeep but the boys...they LOVE it.
Here we are almost at the end of the road. We never did find a way into the park that wasn't gated or locked but we did find a beautiful drive.
