Sandy's Van

After climbing the dunes we headed back to Alamosa to retrieve the Changs van.  While in route Sandy called saying that she was on her way to the cabin and got stuck in the mud.  While we had left that morning and the roads were muddy we had not realized that it had rained all day up in the mountains.  The neighbors told Sandy she was too stuck to do anything that evening.  She needed to wait till things dried out a bit the next day.  We arrived back after dark and helped her off load the van and carry stuff back to the cabin.

The next morning.

This happens to be the same mud-hole an ambulance got stuck in a couple of years ago delaying an elderly man from getting to the hospital by and hour or two.  Ask me for the story sometime.

I have to admit, I live for things like this.

We used both 4-wheel drives to pull her out.  It may seem like overkill, but that mud can be slicker than snot.  Those winches are not there for looks, they get used almost every trip we make up there.

We got her out without much problem and no one got stuck for the rest of the trip.
