Sandy and I have spent the last three months training to climb Humbolt Peak. Humbolt is what is called a 14er. A mountain above 14,000 feet. In other words, about as tall as a mountain can get in the lower 48.
We got up early and left before the crack of dawn. The Wet Mountain Valley has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Humbolt Peak is in the Sangre de Cristo range of mountains. It is one of those snow capped mountains in the distance.
We left early, but not early enough. My fault for getting lost and not wanting to be up earlier than 4am. Here we are offloading at the trailhead and getting the dogs ready.
Sandy and Baloo.
Vern lent me his selfie stick. I may have had a bit of fun with it.
There are no pictures on the way up because it was hard and I had to stop and catch my breath every 100 yards.
At the trailhead there was no snow but higher up at tree line we had to turn around short of our goal (the summit) due to the lack of snowshoes.
Deep snow.
Ellie Mae was not fond of her new doggie backpack, but she tolerated it for my sake.
I may have had a little too much fun with the selfie stick.
Ellie all tuckered out on the way down.

We hope to return in September and complete the climb.
