Turdy the Turtle

Turdy the Turtle entered out lives on our way home from the garden store today. Turdy was trying to cross a busy paved road with curbs that would not have allowed her to get off the road even if she made it. Sensing a science lesson I pulled over and Chad jumped out and waved off traffic while picking her up. Of course the van then erupted into a hundred questions from 3 passengers in the back seats. We took Turdy home to be examined and named by said passengers.

Introductions

Turdy must past inspection by the backyard security guard.

We got the nature book out so we could identify Turdy and what environment she would like to live in.

Turdy turned out to be a box turtle that lives on land and likes cool moist places with lots of bugs to eat. So, we made Turdy a temporary home and planed to take her to the woods in the evening.

After naps and dinner we headed out on a hike to give Turdy a new home. It was then that we realized there was a storm coming and we needed to hurry.

Taking turns carrying Trudy.

Turdy's new home. Nora is picking leaves for her bed.

Final preparations.

Turdy said goodbye and took cover from the storm in her new cozy condo.

Racing the rain home. We just barely made it.

It was when we made it back to our yard that I realized Nathaniel had put on two different kinds of boots. It's a good thing we didn't hike far.
