Our second trip to the Sand Dunes was shorter, but just as fun. Susan arrived the day before and this was her first trip there.
The kids of course knew what to do and headed out into the water.
The stronger current held plenty of excitement. Nora is on the far right laying on her back and letting the current carry her. Maria and Susan are standing on the left watching.
Susan, Shaunda and I decided to hike the dunes.
It was fun! Every new summit led us to a new view. Once on top of the dunes it was surprising to see the deep valleys in between and the shocking distance we covered.
Me on top.
Well, not all the way on top, we made it to the top of a dune about 2/3rds the height of the highest.
Heading down. Poor Susan! This was only her first full day at high altitude. It takes several days, sometimes weeks to adjust. Being out of breath is the most obvious issue with being up high. Altitude sickness is also common place.
Shaunda was a great encourager telling us to just try to make it up to the next highest dune. She said that about 5 times before agreeing that we could turn around.
Tired of body surfing the kids took to digging ponds while we were gone.
Here they are, minus Jonathan. Now imagine the large amount of sand in those swimming suits and imagine cleaning all those kids up...
